This summer Peter and I (ie. I) decided to get a small veggie share of a local CSA. It's something I have wanted to do for a while. I love veggies, but we tend to get a little stagnant in our dinner choices, and I'm excited to be forced to try some new things.

Today was our first pick up!

Unfortunately, I had to work, so it was up to Peter and Bella to visit the farm and make our selections.
The way our farm runs things is that they have bins of all the vegetables set out labeled with how much each size share gets. You walk around and pick which things you want, and there is a swap box for if you don't like something available that week.

We decided to do the small share because there are basically only 2 of us eating this stuff, and we do still have the garden growing. I'll admit I was a little nervous that as nice as it is to support local agriculture, it wouldn't seem like we were getting our money's worth.

I'm not so nervous anymore :) This week's share is:
Swiss chard
Tatsoi
Spinach
Kale
Lettuce
Garlic scapes
Broccoli
Scallions
Arugula
Radishes

And our first CSA meal:
Photobucket
Lemon rice (nothing from the CSA)
Chicken with garlic scapes and capers (Scapes from the CSA. It was delicious, but I think the capers were a little over-powering)
Broccoli

Oh, yay, someone else doing the CSA thing!
I got my parents to try it last year, and they liked it so much they're doing it again this year. (I'm not, as there are no CSAs down here local enough that I can bike. Perhaps next year...) And that dinner looks delicious!
